‘Fast Eddie’ rockets into history on skateboard at 60kmh

Sunday, June 9, 2013

WHILE the Nitro Circus thrillseekers enthralled crowds at Browne Park, Barcaldine got their own show when Eddie McDonald took off on his rocket-powered skateboard.
Skating past the Tree of Knowledge along Barcaldine's Oak St on Saturday night, Eddie fired up his rockets to reach about 60kmh in front of a cheering crowd outside one of the town's pubs.
"Everyone was pretty blown away by it. It definitely got a lot of attention" he said.
Unfortunately, the commotion drew the attention of nearby police officers who fined him $154 for riding a modified recreational vehicle.
"It was an expensive ride, but it was worth it in a way. It was good fun at the time."
Eddie said he had bought rockets that were legal to use as model rockets and attached them to his skateboard.
"I love skating, and I can get to around 30kmh on it just by pushing, so I wanted to see how fast I could get it with a bit of rocket power," he said.
"After that I just figured, why not just go down to the main drag and give them a bit of a show."
The 24-year-old boilermaker and daredevil said he spent a lot of time building new contraptions including motorised watercraft and planes.
Eddie said while getting the fine put a sour note on the ride, he was hoping to do it again.
"I'd love to do it again … but with bigger rockets this time. I want to see how fast I can get it to," he said.
"Except I might do it somewhere the police aren't patrolling next time."
A police spokesman yesterday confirmed that a fine had been issued for this offence and said the legislation was in place to help ensure the safety of individuals.
"When people make modifications to vehicles like this, there is no way of knowing how it will function," he said.
"We have to control these matters as it not only poses a risk to the individual, but anybody nearby."

Grove Skateboard iPhone Cases!

The Skate Case is a two-piece case that slides on, with holes for the 3.5mm headphone jack and charging port, as well as a wooden button for the lock button up top.
Clearly, aesthetic quality isn’t really an issue with the Skate Case, but what about durability? According to the founders, the Skate Case is made with a solid surface core that sits underneath the laminated maple, which helps to protect your phone.
The Skate Case has a lot going for it, but with all that rad, the price tag is a bit hard to swallow. You can pick up the Skate Case online for $149, and shipping will take 2-5 days.

Each Skate Case is made from recycled skateboard material and rubbed with citrus oil to bring out the unique coloring of the wood. This means that if you buy a Skate Case, no one in the world will ever have the same case as you. Pretty cool, right?
See, when skateboard manufacturers build skateboards, there are plenty of leftover materials and scraps that go to waste. According to Grove, the Portland-based Skate Case manufacturer, there is enough skateboard waste material from PS Stix each week in Portland to fill up an entire school bus.
Instead of letting that waste live in a landfill, Grove rescues it and works with MapleXO, a company that sells jewelry made of old skateboards, to create iPhone cases.
In essence, they take thin wood strips and laminate them into a single block. From there, the team mills the case from that single block, and then hand-files the fine details like the docks and buttons. Finally, Grove sands down the case and rubs it with citrus oil to bring out the unique coloring.

GOOD Websites To Get CHEAPER Stuff?

There are some good sites to get shoes and boards cheaper. If you need shoes 6pm.com is a good site for shoes there usually $40-50  or even 30 which is pretty cheap. I got a pair of Emerica's on there for only $40.
Also skate warehouse is a good site for boards, clothes, and other products.

What Shoes That Are GOOD and LAST

I'm skating Nike Koston 2's and so far their amazing, so far the longest lasting shoes i've had are Emerica, and Fallen, and they are super comfy. Etnies are pretty good but it depends which ones you get, sheckler's look good but i would watch reviews first.

What Boards Are GOOD

I skate REAL and I love them. They have good pop and concave and they last a while. Bakers are also a good company they have a lot of pop. I heard DGK is also a good board company but I've never skated one.
